The German Werner living in Canada rode after his retirement as a professor around North and South America. He wrote a book with a day-to-day account of a trip by BMW R 100 GSPD. It gives an insight into matters specific to motorcycle adventure travel: the documents required, the maintenance of the bike, road and riding conditions as they affect the motorcyclist, border crossings, transporting the bike by air freight, and accommodation and security for bike and rider. An appendix lists exact distances, and the names of secure campgrounds and hotels. The travelogue includes conversations with many of the fellow travellers Werner met along the route. The book also touches on more personal questions. The writer demonstra-tes that anyone with a strong desire to do so can indulge in motorcycle adventure travel. 1st edition in 1976. 2nd edition in 1980 much more detailed. 3rd edition in 2001. Totally overworked with colour prints as well. Self published.
B.T.: I phoned Paul at first in 1991 and I visited him in 1993 in England. Since then we are still in nice contact. In my book "Motorrad-Abenteuer-Touren" I wrote in 1994: "The best recommendation-book in Englisch language. All his written down experiences have no time limit". Until ca. 1998/9 Paul had the world-record in long-time-travelling by motorcycle with 12,5 years.

Paul wrote in his book for me that he thanks me for encourageing him to publish the book again.

Die Idee der Kreispolizeibehörde Meschede, die Motorradunfallzahlen durch bessere Information zu senken, führte zu einem Ringbüchlein mit wetterfestem Material. Motorradfahrer Ralf Schumacher übernahm die Schirmherreschaft, die Bauerei Veltins und bikerfreundliche Gaststätten die Mitfinanzierung. B.T. 22.10.01: I found British Theresa Wallach in 1997 in USA being 87 years. Then I had a wonderful exchange by letters with her. She told me that is writing first time a book about her Transafrica-tour from England with a sidecar and Miss Florence Blenkiron to Capetown and Florence solo back to GB. Theresa died before the book was published. She is one of the great mc-pioneers and women-mc-pioneers.
